The media set has 2 media families simply only 1 are provided.

The syntax for a multiple file restore is

I got this message when trying to restore a fill-in that I had done manually, I made the mistake of having two entries in the destination and so it striped the data.

To make things more complex I am restoring to some other database name and in a different binder.  I accept already sucessfully restored the a BAK file and created both the MDF and LDF files, I then successfully restored and the first TRN file.  It is just this side by side transaction log which is split across the 2 files that is a trouble.

Can y'all delight allow me know the syntax for restoring these multiple files.

I would have thought it would be something like

RESTORE LOG MyDatabase FROM Deejay
  = 'J:\SQLBackups\MyDB200704030907a.TRN'   ,       'J:\SQLBackups\MyDB200704030907b.TRN'
with movement 'Mydatabase_Log' to 'J:\MyDBRestore\MyDBRestore.LDF',
 NOUNLOAD , STATS = 10, RECOVERY , STOPAT = '4/02/2007 3:20:00 AM'

merely it does not similar the comma betwixt the ii files, I take tried nothing as well as the word AND as well equally but listing the two files.

So what is the syntax for such a restore?

The media set has 2 media families but only 1 are provided.

Hello,

I am getting the aforementioned mistake in this scenario... when in the 5th step I selected a new database from "to database" dropdown.

I see (from RESTORE LABELONLY) that the file I have, has the following attributes:

Family unit count: 2, Family unit sequence: 2.

So I suppose that the file with sequence 1 is missing. However, what tin can I restore from this merely file? Can I somehow restore at least table definitions? It was a huge database (and I call back I have equaly large file )

Thank you very much.

Paul

Hullo Glate:

I had the exact problem, and later on reading your postal service, I was able to restore my database. Here are the steps:

  1. Right click on the database and select Tasks/Restore/Database option from the shortcut menu

  2. Click on the "From Device" radio button, then click on the ellipse push

  3. In the "specify Backup" window, click on the "Add together" button to scan and observe the backup file you created. If you did not relieve the your fill-in file every bit xxx.BAK, and then y'all have to select "All Files" from the "Files of type" drop down options in lodge to be able to see the backup file

  4. Click OK twice, then click on the Restore checkbox to select the file in the "Restore Database" windows in the "Select the fill-in sets to restore" section.

  5. Click on the "From database" radio button and select the database name y'all are trying to restore.

  6. In the "Options" section, select the checkbox "Override the existing database"

  7. Finally, click on the "OK" button to kickoff the restore

  8. Finally, click the "OK" button to start the

You really need two backup files to do a restore if yous have two destinations configured. Highlighting one of the backup destination does not mean that information technology will fill-in to that single destination. It creates a Media Family, with the outset detail in the list being "Media 1, Family 1" and the second particular being "Media 1, Family ii". To do a restore y'all need both of the files listed in your destinations list as your backup is spanned across those ii files.

Your Destinations shows:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\mybackup.bak

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\otherbak.bak

So to do a restore you need:

mybackup.bak and otherbak.bak

ane. When you lot make the fill-in, change the Fill-in Set up Name.

two. Remove all of the destinations listed, and add together 1 new destination.

3. Do a full backup.

It should restore usually.

If you lot bank check the contents of the backup when you go to restore it, if it says it contains 2 media families, you volition probably accept this problem.  I'grand no skillful, merely this worked for me.

Expert luck.
