What Does the Blue Check Mark Mean on Bumble
So, you're new to Bumble and it's all a little confusing. If you've been on Hinge or Tinder, they've probably come pretty intuitive by now and you feel like a boomer trying to navigate a new app. But don't worry, I'm here to help!
Obviously, you know the basics of Bumble. In fact, you probably feel like an incredibly gentlemanly guy for signing up. You're pretty much the epitome of a male feminist, opening up an account on the app made for women for everyone!
Well, maybe, but Bumble's massive valuation when it went public, along with the fact that its gender ratio is only slightly more even than Tinder, implies that quite a few men might have had the same idea.
If you want to dive a bit further into Bumble and totally demystify it before you start swiping, check my full article on Bumble out here. If you just want to know what that damn checkmark is, and how to get one, then read on!
There are two slightly mysterious symbols on Bumble for new users – the heart and the checkmark. Here's what they mean.

The Heart
The heart symbol on Bumble is the SuperSwipe. As you might suspect, a SuperSwipe is the equivalent of Tinder's Super Like, but the marketing geniuses at Bumble hid that fact with that extremely cunning name change! If you get one of these, someone really likes you. Or their thumb slipped.
The Checkmark
The Checkmark on Bumble indicates that a user has been verified. Bumble is the first app in the US to use real-time photo verification. This sounds fancy, but basically, it just means they ask you to take a quick selfie to show you are who your pictures say you are. The process is pretty much instant, and it might put other users' minds at ease so why not do it?

How to Get Verified on Bumble
Verification is a really simple process on Bumble. It seems to be something they're pushing at the moment, and ties in with their mission to make online dating more comfortable and, above all, safer, for women and anyone else who has ever felt at risk on an app.
You can verify your own profile by tapping the Verify button on your profile. Bumble will ask you to strike one of around 100 poses and snap a picture.
Yes, it's a little like a vogueing session, but suck up your embarrassment and it'll only take thirty seconds.
Once you're verified, you may well find you get more matches. Or if you don't, at least you're taking an active part in making the internet a safer place! What a great feminist you are after all.
Bumble has gone one step further than you might expect with their verification. You can also ask a match to verify themselves if you'd like them to.
I mean, it will probably turn out that they are the 25-year-old from Dubuque that they claimed to be all along. Some people just naturally text like your grandpa after three Miller Lights!
What is a SuperSwipe?
Like I said earlier, a SuperSwipe is basically a super like. You just hit the heart symbol by a user's picture or on their profile, and if you have any SuperSwipes going you'll send them one.
A SuperSwipe shows up for all users, letting them know that you like them without them having to swipe right on you first.
There's obviously less point using SuperSwipe on a premium member because they can see who liked them on their Beeline.
Of course, it's hard to tell who is and is not a premium member just by looking at their profile, and on top of that, a SuperSwipe does draw more attention to itself than a regular like even for those Bumble Premium users.
Then again, is it too much to send a SuperSwipe? That's a very deep and complex question, and to answer it we would need a big graph that included a Y-axis of how thirsty you are and a Y-axis of how stone-cold cool you are apart from the SuperSwiping.
Oh, and how hot you are. That always has to be taken into account. Because let's be real, if you're hot enough there is no need at all to be cool. Or smart.
Or, well, anything really! And that, my friends, is why it's actually better to be a 6-8 out of 10. We have to develop charm and personalities!
You get SuperSwipes with your Boost or Premium membership, and you can also buy super swipes with Bumble Coins – one coin equals one SuperSwipe.
The company seems to be phasing coins out, though, which makes sense given that they were kind of a hat on a hat with two premium options too.
A hive on a hive? Anyway, watch this space for updates because things seem to be changing a little.
